A Louisiana federal judge sentenced former Newton elementary school teacher David Ettlinger to 45 years in prison on Tuesday for his role in an online child pornography ring, his attorney said.
Ettlinger, 35, will also be under supervised release after he has served his prison term, said Jennifer Culotta, his attorney.
Ettlinger's arrest last January shocked Newton residents and school officials. Ettlinger grew up in Newton and taught in the city’s schools for 12 years. He was a popular second-grade teacher at Underwood Elementary School at the time of his arrest.
Ettlinger also faces state charges and can now be brought back to Massachusetts, said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney's office.
State prosecutors allege that Ettlinger indecently assaulted three girls from the Boston metropolitan area and taped the incidents. None of the girls were his students. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.
