Solomon Schechter Day School has announced two $1 million designated gifts to develop a new athletic complex at the Upper School Schoolman Campus located at 125 Wells Avenue, Newton.
The gifts come from Schechter grandparents Barbara and Frank Resnek and Schechter friends Christina and Mike Gordon, according to the school, which offers a curriculum in secular and Judaic studies for children ages 18 months through eighth grade.
The improvements will provide a state-of-the-art complex, including a high school regulation-sized outdoor synthetic turf field, improved outdoor lighting, and significant upgrades to the campus's indoor athletic field facility.
According to the school, these gifts come with a new strategic partnership and a long-term lease agreement between the school and Valeo Futbol Club, a youth soccer organization, who will use both the outdoor and indoor facilities when not in use by Schechter students.
"The development of Schechter's Athletic Complex is a true win-win opportunity for the school," said Andria Weil, president of the Schechter Board of Trustees, in a press release. "Our students will have access to top-of-the-line four-season facilities and the school will have a steady, continuing source of income. The overall capital improvement puts our facility and our program on par with the best independent schools in the area," she said.
Construction will be completed in the spring of 2013, when a dedication will be held, the school said.
