Voters have steadily been pouring into Newton’s polling stations throughout the day after the morning crowds cleared out, said Craig AJ Manseau, the executive secretary of the elections commissions.
Manseau estimates that just over 40 percent of registered voters had cast their ballots by about 1 p.m. Tuesday.
In the last presidential election, 81 percent of Newton’s voters participated and Manseau said turnout is likely to be the same or close to it, this time.
“It’s very active out there,” he said.
