To better reflect its transformation into a walkable retail and entertainment complex, Chestnut Hill Shopping Center has been renamed "The Street," owner and manager WS Development announced Wednesday.
The shopping center is located on Route 9 and is undergoing redevelopment changes to "place it at the forefront of serving shoppers both locally and beyond," according to the center's website.
"Chestnut Hill Shopping Center was part of a then-revolutionary wave of retail projects opening around the country just after World War II,” said David Fleming, corporate marketing director for WS Development. “Today, however, the project has a new, powerful, cutting-edge, configuration and group of specialty shops, dining establishments and entertainment. Rebranding it as ‘The Street’ more accurately reflects the sophisticated offerings and urban experience our customers can find here.”
The Street features a mix of national, regional and local retailers, new casual and fine dining options, and services. Coming soon are Showcase Super Lux featuring Davio’s Cucina, The Sports Club/LA, Polarn O. Pyret, Pottery Barn, lululemon athletica, Shake Shack, Pinkberry, Del Frisco’s, Bernard’s, Treat Cupcake Bar, and many others soon to be announced. These new retailers will join existing tenants including Star Market, The Container Store, Angora Ice, Portobello Road, Urban Grape, Aquitaine, EYESPOT, Legal Sea Foods, The Cottage, and others.
The phased redevelopment, designed by Cambridge-based Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates (PCA), is expanding and transforming the project into a town center complete with tree-shaded pedestrian walkways, outdoor dining, cafes and new buildings with glass facades overlooking scenic Hammond Pond. For the first time, storefronts will open to both the south facing Route 9 as well as to the north facing Hammond Pond.
“The transformation of the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center into ‘The Street’ brings a hip new ‘town center’ buzzing with shops and outdoor cafes enlivening new tree-lined sidewalks and streets, knitting together a host of new shopping and entertainment opportunities,” said David Chilinski, president of PCA.
