Newton police arrested one man and are searching for a second suspect after a home invasion Friday afternoon on Falmouth Road.
The suspect fled the scene shortly after police responded to a call around 2:38 p.m. about an armed breaking and entering, according to Newton police Lieutenant Bruce Apotheker.
There were two people inside the home at the time of the invasion. One occupant told police he heard a noise outside the back door and went to check it out. When he opened the door, the suspects entered the home armed with a long, black-handled silver knife.
The occupant was able to run to a neighbor’s house and call police, while the suspects ordered the other to go into another room and remain quiet.
Apotheker said the suspects stayed in the home for a couple of minutes before fleeing. One was apprehended just over the line in Waltham by a Newton police captain and was put under arrest. Police are continuing their search for the second suspect.
Neither of the occupants was treated for injuries after the break in, Apotheker said.
The suspect was described as a black man, six feet tall, wearing dark clothing. Police urge anyone with pertinent information about the invasion or the missing suspect to call 617-796-2100.
