Former Newton teacher David Ettlinger pleaded not guilty today to charges that he sexually assaulted two children, posed them nude and videotaped them.
Bail was set at $100,000 cash during his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court.
Ettlinger is now accused of assaulting three children in all, none of whom were his students. Investigators have now identified two alleged victims in Suffolk County and one in Middlesex County. Ettlinger has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
In the latest indictment, prosecutors accuse Ettlinger of undressing the two girls while they slept, fondling one of them, and videotaping them.
One incident occurred at the child's home, the other at another location in Suffolk County, Assistant District Attorney David Deakin said. Both date back to 2009.
Ettlinger's lawyer declined to comment.
If Ettlinger makes bail he is barred from having any contact with children under the age of 18. But he is unlikely to be released since there is a federal detainer on Ettlinger, Deakin said.
Ettlinger also faces federal charges related to his involvement in a global on-line child pornography site.
This morning Ettlinger shuffled in to the courtroom in a gray fleece and a five o'clock shadow. He made no attempt to cover his face from the cameras and reporters who dominated the courtroom as he has in past court appearances.
Ettlinger, who taught at Underwood Elementary School, resigned from the Newton public schools in late January after school officials moved to fire him.
The Suffolk County indictment formally charges Ettlinger with two counts each of aggravated assault and battery on a child under 14, posing a child in a state of nudity, and secretly photographing a nude or semi-nude person.
He had been initially charged in West Roxbury and Brighton District Courts with possession of child pornography and sexually assaulting and videotaping a friend's child, whom he was baby-sitting.
Ettlinger also faces five counts of aggravated indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 in Middlesex Superior Court. Those charges relate to a girl Ettlinger was hired to baby-sit.
