Tufts University’s run to the NCAA Division 3 women’s tennis quarterfinals was aided by sophomore Lauren Hollender, a graduate of Newton South High.
‘‘Lauren made such a great impression on me when I was recruiting her and she has continued to impress me,’’ said Tufts head coach Kate Bayard, whose squad set a program record with 16 wins. ‘‘She is a model for sportsmanship on the court, the ultimate team player and one of the most athletic tennis players I have seen in all of Division 3.’’
Hollender had a combined fall and spring season overall record of 17-8 at fourth and fifth singles and was 13-6 in dual matches.
‘‘During the main part of our season (after spring break), Lauren’s record was 11-2. She became tougher and tougher as the season went on,’’ said Bayard.
