Property taxes will increase by $213.47 a year for the average single family home in Newton, according to assessor Elizabeth Dromey.
The Newton Board of Aldermen voted in November to raise the rate from $10.41 to $10.90 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Dromey explained that works out to an average increase in property tax from $7,140.22 to $7.353.69.
The value of the average single family home in the city is now about $674,650, compared to $685,900 last year.
