Needham's Planning Board will hold a public hearing Tuesday, Feb. 4 on where medical marijuana dispensaries would be allowed to set up in town, officials announced recently.
The hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Needham Town Hall, officials said.
The hearing comes after Massachusetts voters passed a ballot question in November 2012 allowing for the use of medicinal marijuana for patients with certain medical conditions.
Needham Town Meeting members imposed a temporary moratorium last May so officials could study where the dispensaries would go, but the moratorium is set to expire March 1.
Planning officials are studying several different areas in Needham that could possibly house dispensaries, including in the Chestnut Street business district downtown, in the area near Muzi Motors on Highland Ave., and in the Reservoir Street industrial districts, said Needham planning director Lee Newman.
The board could vote to designate just one of the districts, or a combination of the options, Newman said.
The Planning Board's recommendation will be taken up before Town Meeting members this May, she said.
