Got a catchy new moniker for Needham’s New England Business Center?
Here’s your chance to help re-brand the quiet business park as a booming technology center. The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. so residents can float their ideas.Needham Special Town Meeting on Dec. 3 approved a tax break for TripAdvisor LLC to lure the online travel company to move from Newton to Needham. It’s all part of an effort to turn the quiet park into a high-tech hub along 128 – and the next step is a new name.
The Town’s Council of Economic Advisors has been working with a marketing consultant to recommend a new name for the area to contribute to its “identity, vitality, and future development,” according to the town’s website. The effort was funded by $17,000 in private contributions from area businesses and developers.
The group’s recommended strategy is to come up with a name that identifies the area as a “distinct Needham neighborhood.” Good naming options include the word Needham as well as another one or two syllable word – [modifier] Needham, or Needham [modifier].
So far, according to the town’s website, ideas include Needham Crossing, Needham Highlands, Needham Point and Needham Edge – but no final decisions have been made.
Which is where you come in.
The Board is looking for comments and suggestions. Written comments will be accepted on or before Dec. 31, and can be submitted to the Selectmen’s Office at Town Hall or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
After the public meeting, according to the website, the Board will request a recommendation on further action from the Council.
When the perfect name has been decided, the town will work to build a brand identity, connect the name to the area, and put up signs, logos and promotional materials.
