Take heart, candlepin fanatics and birthday party planners: The grand reopening of the Needham Bowlaway is set for Saturday, Aug. 6.
The new owners are throwing an all-day party, starting at 10 a.m., featuring lanes and shoe rentals for half price and activities lsuch as face painting and balloon animals for children.
Zach Sundberg, whose family has long run Acton's successful Bowladrome, signed a lease on the space earlier this month. Along with his wife Taryn, Zach will operate the Bowlaway much as it had been run for decades before closing this spring.
"When we first open, we're keeping things the same,” said Sundberg. “We don't want to mess too much with people's expectations. We're keeping the prices the same. The only change is that we'll be open for longer hours, maybe 60 or 70 a week."
The rebirth of the Bowlaway is welcome news for the region's bowling fans, who mourned the closing this spring of Fairway Bowling in Natick. The Route 9 business is now a pile of rubble.
