Natick is receiving attention on a national level this month for implementing its one-to-one laptop program at the high school and eighth-grade level.

Project RED, a national research group that studies the effects of technology in school systems, has selected Natick Public Schools as one of 10 Project RED Signature Districts.

Natick was chosen from a competitive application process, and will now receive customized guidance and collaboration opportunities from Project RED in the current academic year.

Project RED will review each district’s technology implementation plan, and help the schools to align with the research-based strategies of the Project RED Design, a blueprint for implementing technology-based school reform.

The chosen districts will then publish findings to the Signature District community for a period of three years, and will become best-practice models for other districts, according to Project RED.

“We know that districts are challenged by large-scale project planning,” said Tom Greaves, a member of the Project RED team, on their website. “The Project RED Design will provide the entire community with both tools and a timeline for implementation."

The 10 districts chosen include:

• East Noble School Corporation, IN
• Ferndale School District, WA
• Kuna School District, ID
• Natick Public Schools, MA
• Owensboro Public Schools, KY
• Reeds Springs, MO
• Richland School District Two, SC
• Salisbury Township Schools, PA
• Southern Lehigh, PA
• Sunnyside School District, AZ

The program will also pick 10 more districts. Applications are still being accepted at

The project was established by three research organizations: The Greaves Group, The Hayes Connection and One-to-One Institute, according to the website.
