High winds caused a tree to collapse on a home near Natick center this morning, causing roof damage, and startling groups of parents and children walking to school.
The tree, which was more than 50 feet tall, collapsed on the unoccupied home on Walcott Sreet around 8:30 a.m., as neighborhood families were walking to the nearby Johnson Elementary School.
Nobody was injured.
Several neighbors called police, and Natick public works and fire officials spent much of the morning dismantling the tree and evaluating damage to the home.
The house is empty because it is in the process of being sold, said Diane Sullivan, a realtor for Coldwell Banker in Natick.
The town had been making plans to remove the tree -- which was cracked and damaged from an earlier storm -- when it struck the house today, she said.
