A Milton police officer was involved in a crash Monday morning at the corner of Reedsdale and Central Avenue while responding to a “suspicious person” report, Milton police said Monday afternoon.
According to Deputy Chief Charles Paris, the officer was driving down Reedsdale Road and at Central Avenue approached a red light. After not seeing any cars in the immediate area, the officer then proceeded through the intersection and collided with another car carrying five people.
Paris said the officer intentionally stopped before entering the intersection and was traveling about 15 mph.
“The collision was not high speed, the airbag didn’t even deploy …,” Paris said.
The officer reportedly “banged up his knee” but did not have any additional injuries and returned to work after processing paperwork. The five passengers all reported some pain but were not seriously injured, Paris said.
In the meantime, other officers responded to the suspicious person call. However Paris said nothing came of the report.
