A Milton teen, Haeyeon Cho, was recently awarded a $10,000 scholarship for her submission to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
This year, the organization received more than 200,000 submissions from students around the country in seventh through 12th grade.
Cho, who goes by Tina and is a senior at Milton Academy, was one of 15 students to receive a Portfolio Gold Medal, the competition’s highest honor, a news release said. The medal and the $10,000 prize is only given to high school seniors who show “originality, impressive technical skill, and unique voice.”
Cho and others will be recognized at an awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June and her work will be featured at a two-week exhibit at Parsons The New School For Design in Manhattan. She is also now eligible for additional scholarships totaling $5 million from more than 60 colleges, universities, and art institutes across the country.
