Fourteen former Milton High School individual athletes, a coach, and the entire 1963 football and 1996 boys’ basketball team will be inducted into the Milton High School Athletic Hall of Fame later this month.
The group will converge at the Copeland Field House at the high school on Oct. 23 at 5:30. p.m. for an unveiling of a series of plaques honoring Hall of Famers. The program began in 2007 to recognize the achievements of student-athlete alumni.
This year’s inductees are: Fred Bortoloti (1942, football, basketball and baseball); Donald Giles (1939, football, basketball and baseball); Dudley O’Leary (1954, football, cross country, basketball, track); Jeffrey Sullivan (1956, football, basketball, baseball ); Steve Poelaert (1974, hockey and baseball).
Also: Mark Arnold (1984, gymnastics); Joe Bianculli (1991, hockey and baseball); Kevin Bligh (1988, football); Jean Mazzotti Courtney (1988, field hockey basketball, softball); Jennifer Duggan Korn (1995, soccer, track, softball); Gerry Haran (1986, gymnastics ); Greg Lovely (1997, golf, basketball and baseball); Greg McTigue (1990, football, basketball, baseball); and Kate Moynihan (1996, volleyball, track).
Also being inducted are field hockey coach Karen Duggan McLaughlin; the entire 1963 football team, who were Bay State League Champions; and the entire 1996 boys’ basketball team, who had a 25-0 record and were Division II State Champions.
In addition, Ed Baker; and Lloyd and Steven Wilkie will receive “Chairman’s Awards” for their contributions to Milton sports programs.
Baker, sports editor of the “Milton Times,” was recognized for his “decades of dedicated and unwavering support for and promotion of Milton High School student-athletes, as well as his long and valued service to the town as its Director of Parks and Recreation, under whose auspices many future ‘stars’ were given the chance to develop their skills and love for their chosen sports.”
The Wilkies were honored for their “decades of devoted and tireless work on behalf of the Milton High School hockey programs and for their support for all Milton High athletic teams. They are definitely Milton’s #1 Hockey Fan Family.”
"Just as in the previous three years, the Class of 2010 (inductees) is an extremely impressive and highly deserving group,” said Mike Goodless, chairman of the board of the MHSAHOF.
Following the unveiling, a cocktail party, dinner and induction ceremony will be held at Lantana in Randolph starting at 6:30pm.
