The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Drama Club is pleased to announce that it will present "An Evening of Theatre" on Thursday April 25th and Friday April 26th at 7PM at the Melrose Performing Arts Center located at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 350 Lynn Fells Parkway, Melrose, MA. Ticket prices are $ 10 for adults and $5 for students, children and seniors and will be available at the door. Among the plays that the Drama Club will perform are the "Wicked Queen" by Rinne Groff which examines what happens when alternate worlds collide and an eleven-year-old girl at a new school discovers the power to be ruthless, and thus popular, when she is sucked into the evil kingdom of Grossland, a land which resides just under the covers of her bed. In addition to the "Wicked Queen", the Drama Club will also present a one act version of Shakespeare's classic "As You Like It," the tale of Rosalind, daughter of a banished Duke, who falls in love with Orlando, the disinherited son of one of the Duke's friends. The third production presented is a cutting from a play called "Luv" which will be student-directed by 8th grader, Samantha Sweet.
The "Wicked Queen" will also be performed at a matinee on Friday April 26th at 3 PM (all tickets $5)and will be Melrose's entry into this year's Massachusetts Middle School Drama Festival ("Drama Fest.") Drama Fest, which is run by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild ("METG"), provides middle school students with the unique opportunity to share their work with other member schools and have their production evaluated by professional adjudicators. Awards are presented to schools for both acting and technical excellence. Melrose is scheduled to perform "Wicked Queen" at Drama Fest on Saturday April 27th at 1:45 PM at Weston Middle School, 456 Wellesley Street, Weston, MA.
