Melrose school officials have proposed a budget for the next fiscal year of $26.2 million, a 2.2 percent increase over the budget for current fiscal year, according to city records.
The city's school committee received the proposed budget in mid-February and will continue to review it through March. A public hearing is slated for April 9 at 8 p.m. at Melrose City Hall.
The school department received $3.5 million in outside revenue in the previous two school years; revenue for 2014 is projected at $2.1 million, a 39 percent decrease, according to a copy of the draft budget. The 2013 fiscal year budget was about $25.6 million, $552,836 less than the proposed budget for next year.
Melrose's school committee plans to review the Middle School and High School budgets, including photography, consumable and transcript fees, the athletics budget, and athletics fees in a meeting March 19.
