Members of SEIU Local 509, the Massachusetts Human Service Workers Union, are proud to announce that State Senator Katherine Clark (D-Melrose) has been recognized as their 2012 “Legislator of the Year."
The annual award is presented to a legislator who goes above and beyond in advocating for the welfare of human service workers and the many individuals that they care for across the state. Human service workers look after many of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens, and often provide those individuals with the ability to live independent and safe lives in their communities.
“Given Senator Clark’s record standing with us and the individuals that we serve, it was an easy decision choosing to recognize her efforts this year,” said SEIU Local 509 President Susan Tousignant, a vocational rehabilitation counselor at the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. “We look forward to many years of working with Senator Clark as we join together to fight for working families in Massachusetts.”
Senator Clark was presented the award by the union’s executive board on Tuesday, December 11th.
“I am very honored to receive this award from the people we rely on the provide care for our elderly, keep our elderly in their homes, our disabled safe and our children nurtured,” said Clark. “To receive their recognition is a privilege.”
SEIU Local 509 is a labor union representing over 17,000 human service and child care workers across Massachusetts.
