A fund set up by the city of Melrose to help residents in financial emergencies has topped $10,000 for the year, according to an announcement from the city.
The fund is primarily used to help residents with paying for basic needs like groceries, gas and heat, according to the announcement. It is funded through donations from Melrose residents and groups. About 400 families have received assistance since the fund was established in 2009, the announcement said.
Donations to the fund can be mailed to: Melrose Emergency Fund, Mayor's Office, 562 Main St., Melrose, Mass. 02176, or brought directly to Mayor Rob Dolan's office on the second floor of City Hall.
