City of Melrose
The balance of Melrose's emergency fund has nearly tripled this month, according to an announcement from the city.
The fund totalled $29,000 as of Dec. 18, the announcement said, up from about $10,000 at the start of the month. Donations to the fund are used to help residents pay for basic needs like groceries, gas and heat on a one-time basis. About 400 Melrose families have received assistance since the fund was established in 2009.
Donations to the fund can be mailed to: Melrose Emergency Fund, Mayor's Office, 562 Main St., Melrose, Mass. 02176, or brought directly to Mayor Rob Dolan's office on the second floor of City Hall.
