Within hours of President Barack Obama unveiling a new gun control proposal, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn issued a statement in support of the plan.
"I believe he has put forth sensible solutions that people on all sides of the gun debate can agree upon," McGlynn said in the statement. "President Obama has provided common sense proposals that will help save American lives and keep our children and grandchildren safe."
McGlynn -- who along with over 20 other Massachusetts mayors is a member of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition -- also said Congress should act swiftly.
"It is imperative that Congress takes immediate action to get assault weapons and high capacity magazines off our streets, as well as, strengthen the background checks on all potential purchasers," the statement said.
