Long-time community activist, volunteer, and Mattapan resident Cassandra Cato-Louis was recently named a “Hannaford Health Hero” for her work with the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition.
The Maine-based grocer, in a press release, highlighted her work with the coalition to bring healthy eating options to the Boston neighborhood’s convenience stores through the group’s Healthy on the Block initiative.
Nominated by Vivien Morris, chairwoman of the Food and Fitness Coalition, Cato-Louis is active throughout the neighborhood including her work with the group Mattapan United.
“Cassandra is a community leader with boundless energy. She led the youth members of the coalition in an assessment of the food and fitness environment of the Mattapan community, which provided the basis for the strategic plan of the organization," Morris said in her nomination.
Cato-Louis is the first person this year to be recognized by the program that highlights 12 individuals a year working to better their communities. The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition will receive a $250 Hannaford gift card and Cato-Louis will receive a $50 Hannaford gift card.
