The America Legion William E. Carter Post No. 16 in Mattapan will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Monday, Jan. 21, to celebrate a man who made history and broke barriers in both the United States and Boston.
The breakfast, now in its 10th year, will run from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the post, located at 1531 Blue Hill Ave.
Monday’s festivities will include a performance by the Unified Voices of New England Gospel Choir.
Francisco A. Urena, the commissioner of veterans’ services for the city of Boston, will be Monday’s guest speaker.
A veteran of the Iraq War, Urena served eight-years in the US Marine Corps and was awarded the Purple Heart for combat injuries. He was selected for the city position in September 2011, according to the city of Boston.
Last year guests enjoyed a number of speakers from local residents to area politicians.
Tickets are still available for the event. Adult tickets are $20 and tickets for children under 12 are $10.
