The Marblehead School Committee has begun searching for a new board member to fill the vacancy of a recently resigned official.
Richard Nohelty's resignation became official today. He announced his departure last month at the committee's annual retreat.
Nohelty was in his third term on the board.
As defined by law and policy, the Board of Selectmen and School Committee will hold a joint meeting to interview applicants and appoint a person to fill the seat.
The process is identical to that which filled a previously vacant seat on the School Committee in July.
William Ackerman replaced former chair EuRim Chun who submitted her resignation - effective June 30 - after ongoing tensions among committee members.
Rossana Ferrante Francis, Elizabeth L. Moore, V. Scott H. Solberg, and Alexa E. Squitieri were the other candidates who contended for the spot on the board.
Those interested in the current position must submit a letter of interest, a detailed resume and a description of how they could contribute to the committee, to both boards.
All information must be submitted by Thursday Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. Interviews for the position will be held on Wednesday Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. at Abbott Hall.
Should the person appointed by both boards wish to continue in the position beyond the May 2014 election, he or she will have to run for a position on the School Committee in the town election
