The Super 8 trophy will take a familiar route home after Malden Catholic clinched its fourth-consecutive Div. 1A title with a 5-3 win over Austin Prep at TD Garden Sunday afternoon.

The game was a rematch of the 2013 Super 8 final that the Lancers claimed by a score of 3-2.

Austin Prep (16-5-4) put the Lancers on their heels with an aggressive, up-tempo style of play in the first period, but Malden Catholic (20-4-0) would not be denied. Senior Tyler Sifferlen netted his first of the afternoon with 51 seconds left in the first period when he streaked through the left circle and tucked an offering past Austin Prep netminder Elijah Harris (23 saves).

The floodgates opened on Austin Prep early in the second as the potent Malden Catholic offense potted three goals in the span of 2:50. Ara Nazarian got things started when he flicked a goal past Harris from between the hash marks 35 seconds into the middle frame.

Following an Austin Prep penalty, senior defenseman Nick Rolli sent a blistering slap shot from atop the left wing circle into the far corner of the net. A goal from Matt Filipe on a 2-on-1 50 seconds later put the Lancers up 4-0.

Austin Prep responded 14 seconds later as junior Cam Russo chipped a rebound past Lancer goaltender Alex Reissis (20 saves), cutting the deficit to three. However, Sifferlen’s second goal of the game at 13:04 of the second, reestablishing a four-goal lead heading into the final period.

Robert Carpenter helped carry Austin Prep back into contention in the third as he scored a pair of goals at 4:39 and 9:38 respectively, but Malden Catholic ensured that would be as close as the Cougars would get.

With the win, Malden Catholic became the first team to win four state titles in a row since Catholic Memorial won four-straight Super 8 crowns from 1998-2001.
