The Immigrant Learning Center Public Education Institute introduces it's latest program, Talking to America About Immigrants and Immigration. The free online interactive workshop is open to all staff at immigrant-serving organizations. The program will consist of three online sessions, on February 13, February 26, and March 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Participants can attend one or all sessions.
Speakers will include Manuel Pastor of the Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration at USC, Julie Rowe of The Opportunity Agenda, Amaha Kassa of African Communities Togethre, James Jennings of Tufts University, Reshma Shamasunder of the California Immigrant Policy Center, Susan Downs-Karkos of Welcoming America, Amanda Bergson-Shilcock of the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians and Westy Egmont of the Immigrant Integration Lab at Boston College.
The February 13 session will include a New Messaging Strategies module, the February 26 date will include a Positioning Immigrants as Assets module, the March 11 session will include Ideas for Creating Welcoming Environments and Addressing Tensions Between Immigrant and African-American Communities, while the Update on Comprehensive Immigration Reform module will take place on all three dates.
