Senior Brian Liang rushed for 164 yards on 18 carries, including touchdown runs of 63, and 72 yards, in the Mystic Valley Eagles' shutout of the South Boston High School Knights. The Eagles got their second win of the season on a cold Friday night made colder by the wind whipping off the adjacent Boston Harbor.
The Eagles’ scoring started in the first quarter when Liang ran for a 63 yards for a touchdown giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead. Liang struck again in the second quarter when he broke free for a 73 yard dash to the end zone. James LoChirco caught a pass from Sydney Guerrier for the 2 point conversion making the score 14-0. The Eagles’ final score came in the third quarter courtesy of another long run this time for 48 yards by James LoChirco. Jayden Jean followed up with a run in for the two point conversion which made the score 22-0.
The Eagles’ defense was very effective throughout the game registering the shutout. After the game Head Coach, Craig Turner, said “I’m proud of our kids, they practiced real hard the last two weeks and despite some adversity that came our way we really put our best effort out there and it’s good to see the final score reflect that. Now the challenge is to put out the same type of effort both in practice and in the game for a second week in a row. We’ve got the chance to really finish strong this season and we’re excited for that opportunity.”
The Eagles’ next game is Saturday morning at 10:00 against St. Joseph’s at Malden Catholic.
