The Mystic Valley Class of 2013 gathered at the 576 Eastern Avenue campus for the annual Senior Lunch. The room was filled with the students and their families as well as all of Mystic Valley’s faculty and staff.
After opening remarks by Mystic Valley Executive Director Mr. Martin Trice the event was turned over to the students.
Senior Class President Sophie Carroll delivered a thank you on behalf of the class to all of the parents in attendance. The presentation of the Class Gift and Flowers to parents was done by Senior Vice-President Robert DeSantis and Senior Class Treasurer Kathryn McPherson. The Class Gift was a picnic table that will be used by future high school students as they eat their lunch.
Senior Joanna Petras presented the “Rookie of the Year” Award to faculty member James Oxsalida a new Math teacher at the high school. He also coached basketball and made an immediate mark on his students and players. The Unsung Hero award was given to Jason Cantwell who teaches history and is the girls’ varsity basketball and girls junior varsity volleyball coach by Senior Class Secretary, Gabriella Elmoussaoui.
Mystic Valley Assistant Director George Benzie next presented scholarships from a number of local foundations and charitable organizations to students who were chosen by the faculty.
Mr. Benzie then delivered the Service and Leadership awards to two of the Class of 2013’s most outstanding members. The Service award given to a senior who has dedicated themselves to the helping of others through service was presented to Siobhan Glynn. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Latin Club, Model UN, and she is the President of the Drama Club. She sings with the Handel and Haydn Young Women’s Chorus, performing in and around the Boston area. This fall she will attend Bryn Mawr College on a full Posse Scholarship.
The leadership award which is given to a senior who has demonstrated great leadership over the course of their years at Mystic Valley was presented to Jordan Cram. Jordan is an academically outstanding student. She was also the president of the National Honor Society, The Kiwanis Family Committee Chair of Key Club, and a member of the Gardening Club, Spanish Club, Yearbook, and Model UN, to name a few. She is also an assistant teacher at the Dance Studio of Wakefield. This fall she will attend Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
Mrs. Nicole Manseau Scholarship Committee Chairwoman of the Mystic Valley PTO then presented the PTO Scholarships to Jordan Cram and Kayla Mei both of Malden. They each dedicated themselves to helping out their fellow classmates and the school throughout their time at Mystic Valley. The awards were made in recognition of the student’s distinction and excellence in volunteerism and community service.
During the lunch the audience was treated to a slideshow that showcased the seniors’ travels on the road to graduation beginning with pictures from Kindergarten and moving on through the years.
