A 17-year-old from Malden was shot in the ankle shortly before midnight Sunday, Malden police said.
The teen was among a group hanging out at the Willow Street skateboard park, when an unknown suspect approached the group from a nearby hill, police said.
When the man began firing, the teens scattered, according to the police report.
"Once they got a short distance away, one realized he was shot in the ankle," said Lieutenant Marc Gatcomb, Malden police spokesman.
The victim, who was not identified, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. His injuries were considered non-life threatening.
Police have not made any arrests but the investigation is ongoing, Gatcomb said.
