Malden Department of Public Works employees are back on the job after a brief brush with a flea infestation shut the Commercial Street garage for a day.
Workers were ordered out Monday, said Jeffrey Manship, DPW director, after he was notified that a few workers had been bit.
Exterminators swept the building, and attributed the source to a live raccoon that had entered the garage portion of the facility, possibly infesting some old furniture.
City trucks were relocated while the building and the vehicles were swept clean, and a second visit by an exterminator is planned for tomorrow to finish off the job, Manship said.
"We're back up and running now," he said.
