As a resident of Malden, I would like to pass along a solution to the budget crisis Mayor Howard faces. Instead of focusing on budget cuts, he should be focusing on increasing revenues. All he has to do is ask the police to give tickets to all the illegally parked cars at any of the weekend services at the Immaculate Conception Church.
Last week, I counted 15 cars parked in the bus stops, seven cars parked facing the wrong direction in a travel lane, and nine cars in another travel lane during only one service.
Despite the fact that this is truly a public safety concern anyway, the city certainly could benefit from this potential revenue stream. And while they are there, the police could ticket all the cars that run the red lights in that intersection as well. Oftentimes, people speed up to make it through the yellow lights, only to get stuck in the middle of the interesection, blocking the traffic that actually has the green light.
I wonder if it is like this at all of the places of worship in the city. Instead of the hands-off policy that is in place now, for the public's safety as well as for the revenue, it is a policy that should be considered.
