The Jamaica Plain-based nonprofit Community Servings will soon kick off its fourth annual, quirky fund-raiser: It asks the public to sponsor-a-‘stache by donating to the agency in recognition of men who volunteer to start February off clean shaven and competitively grow mustaches for the rest of the month.
The yearly contest helps raise money for the hosting organization, which feeds people in Eastern Massachusetts who suffer from any critical illness, along with their dependents and caregivers.
The facial hair cultivation challenge begins on Feb. 1 and runs through March 6.
That night, the “Mustachio Bashio” party will be held. The event at City Table in the Lenox Hotel will mark the end of the upper lip-centric competition. Prizes will be awarded for the best and most creative mustaches and to the top fundraisers.
All growers will also be entered into a prize raffle and will receive a complimentary hot shave from Barbershop Deluxe. Men who raise more than $100 are invited as a complimentary guest to the party on March 6; growers who raise over $200 are invited to bring a guest as well.
Otherwise, tickets to the event are $50 per person, which includes appetizers and cocktails.
Growers can sign up, and the public can sponsor a mustache and review more details, here: www.servings.org/mustachio. For more information, call 617-522-7777 Ext. 235.
