Jamaica Plain nonprofit Community Servings received a $30,000 donation from Whole Foods Market last week.
Employees of the supermarket chain presented a check for $30,729.69 to leaders of the agency that feeds people in eastern Massachusetts who suffer from any critical illness, along with their dependents and caregivers.
The donation was the result of a Whole Foods initiative that, four times each year, gives back 5 percent of a selected day’s net sales to local nonprofits.
On Nov. 15, the grocer held a “5% Day” at eight area stores – Jamaica Plain, Symphony, Charles River Plaza, Hingham, Wayland, Framingham, Swampscott and Andover – in order to make last week’s check presentation to Community Servings.
