FRAMINGHAM — Polls will be open Tuesday for the Framingham's town election from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in each of the town's 18 precincts.
Assistant Town Clerk Lisa Ferguson said she hoped good weather and a contested race for the planning board will encourage residents to come out and vote. She said voter turnout may be between 10 and 12 percent, which would be consistent with previous years.
Four candidates are running for two 3-year seats on the planning board. They are incumbents Susan P Bernstein and Andrea Carr-Evans, and challengers Lewis Colten and Vitor A. Ortiz.
Two candidates are actively running for two seats on the board of selectmen: Incumbent Charlie Sisitsky and current school board member Michael J. Bower. A. Ginger Esty, an incumbent, announced in January that she was withdrawing from that race, reportedly due to health concerns.
There are no other contested town-wide races. Voters will elect members to the library board of trustees, Keefe Tech School Committee, Edgell Grove Cemetery board of trustees, and the housing authority.
Teri S. Benerjee is running unopposed for Town Moderator.
Each precinct will choose four town meeting representatives per precinct to fill 3-year terms, in addition to any open town meeting seats a precinct may have.
This will be the second election within a month in Framingham. Unlike some other municipalities in Massachusetts, Framingham, as well as Natick, did not move the date of its town election to coincide with the April 30 senate primary.
Ferguson said Framingham's representative town meeting form of governance didn't give the town enough flexibility to easily move the town election date.
“We do have three weeks between elections. We feel comfortable that we can certify the local election and segue right into the next one,” she said.
Voter registration for the primary ends Wednesday at 8 p.m.
