The former Goodyear garage and two other small buildings that long stood on Boylston Street have been demolished to make way for the Fenway’s latest development project.
Work on the lot between Boylston and Van Ness streets has begun to build the “Boylston West” project that will bring a mix of residences, offices, and retail to the neighborhood.
The $250 million project at 1325 Boylston includes 225,000 square feet of office space, 170 apartments, about 165,000 square feet for retail space, and an underground parking garage.
The building, which will have an 11-story brick section and a 13-story glass section, is expected to include a Target department store.
Its developer, Steve Samuels, has told the Globe he plans to add retail shops and restaurants to the now quiet Van Ness Street to transform into a “mini Newbury Street.’’
The complex is the latest project in the ongoing revitalization of the neighborhood that has seen new restaurants, offices, and apartment buildings replace parking lots in recent years.
Samuels plans to follow the 1325 Boylston complex with a $65 million 17-story residential building at nearby 132 Brookline Ave.
