Local and school officials gathered to celebrate a new dormitory that has been rising over Huntington Avenue and will now be home to students enrolled in the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
The colorful 20-story dorm at 578 Huntington Ave. adds 493 beds for students and will be able to house all of MassArt’s freshmen and sophomores.
The additional on-campus housing is designed to help reduce the number of students living in neighborhood housing in the Mission Hill and Fenway areas, along with students from multiple colleges and universities.
The $61 million dorm, designed by ADD Inc., is part of the school’s $120 million expansion that includes plans for a design and media center and an overhaul of its public galleries.
