An East Boston girl was one of 10 seventh-graders recently inducted as a Class of 2013 Red Sox Scholar, the Red Sox Foundation announced.
Nathalie Douyon and the other students were honored by Red Sox players and executives and by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at a ceremony held at Fenway Park at the Sox’ game against the Los Angeles Angels on June 9.
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Red Sox Scholar program provides $10,000 in college scholarships as well as tutoring, mentoring, after-school, and summer enrichment activities to academically gifted but financially disadvantaged middle school students in the Boston public schools.
Program support comes from the foundation — the Red Sox official team charity — and from Beth Israel, as well as the Highland Street Foundation, the Klarman Family Foundation, the Peter Lynch Foundation, the Sunshine Lady Foundation, and Target.
