The Boston Redevelopment Authority will host a public meeting to discuss changes to a proposal for construction of a hotel on a narrow lot at the corner of Tremont and Stuart streets in the Theater District, the authority announced.
Amherst Media Investors Boston LLC has revised an earlier proposal, approved in 2007, for redevelopment of 240 Tremont St.
The new plan reduces the number of guest rooms from 240 to 202 but adds two stories — about 17 feet of height — bringing the proposed hotel to a total of 21 floors or about 213 feet, according to a July 2013 letter submitted to the BRA by the project proponents.
As revised, the building would include about 117,000 square feet of floor space, up from 101,000 as previously proposed, and would include a three-story-tall digital sign positioned just above ground level and focused on the prominent downtown intersection.
The letter describes the proposed hotel as a “moderately-priced, select-service lodging option” that would fill a gap in the city’s existing options for visitors.
The community meeting to discuss the proposed changes is set for 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the first-floor community room inside 230 Stuart St., the South Cove Plaza development.
