A prominent space on Morrissey Boulevard that was once home to Westminster Motors has reopened as a J.D. Byrider, a used-car franchise.
The property at 710 Morrissey Blvd. will hold close to 200 cars and went through a number of renovations, according to a representative for franchise owners Ed and Trevor Wiggins.
The location is the fifth J.D. Byrider in Massachusetts and the Wiggins’ fourth location.
“We’ve been anxious to start a J.D. Byrider in Dorchester for quite a while, and I’m excited to announce our opening in this new market,” Trevor Wiggins said in a statement. “As in all of our stores, we will strive to uphold our high satisfaction marks with all of our customers.”
Westminster Motors closed in 2011 and had been operated by the Bickford family since the 1960s, according to the Dorchester Reporter.
The 92,440-square-foot property was assessed in 2012 for an estimated $1,739,000 and is owned by Henry Bloom, Mark Levinson, and a reality trust, according to the city’s Assessing Department.
Representatives for the Wiggins’ estimated 15 jobs would be created by the new business.
