The city will alter the street-sweeping schedule in parts of Dorchester in 2013.
The changes, which will take effect in April when street sweeping returns, will not alter street sweeping times but just the days when sweeping takes place.
The alterations are being made to follow the neighborhood’s residential trash pickup, according to the city's Public Works Department.
“The goal of the alterations is to provide mechanical street sweeping services to more closely follow your residential trash collection day. Currently, posted mechanical street sweeping does not immediately follow the trash collection days in Dorchester,” said the release.” This will alleviate much of the litter generated by the weekly residential trash collection in a faster and more efficient manner.”
Over the winter the Boston Transportation Department will make adjustments to street signs to reflect the changes.
The alterations are part of an ongoing effort by the city to, “explore more effective means of basic city service delivery in this challenging fiscal climate.”
