The girls of Mother Caroline Academy in Dorchester were in the giving spirit this month.
In an effort between the academy and the local nonprofit Hugs for Heroes, the girls made handmade cards and notes for the troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“When troops are deployed for months at a time, it means so much to receive handwritten notes letting them know that those back home are thinking of them. It’s great to see a local school like Mother Caroline making an effort to give back,” said Mireille Manzone, Hugs for Heroes’ president and founder in a statement.
The 50 cards the girls made will be included in a shipment of New Balance apparel donated by Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis’s Youk’s Kids charity.
