A new 66,000 square foot orthopedic facility in Dedham will open is nearing completion and will start taking appointments early next month.
The New England Baptist Outpatient Care Center in Partnership with the Shields Health Care Group will open Sept. 3, according to New England Baptist senior director for marketing and communications Lisa Rand.
“This site was selected because we have a large number of patients south and west of Boston and this location is easy to access right off of 128 and the commuter rail,” Rand said at the facility’s 40 Allied Drive address on Monday.
The facility specializes in outpatient care for orthopedics, Rand said. Prior to the facility opening, much of Baptist’s outpatient work was completed at its Boston hospital facility located in Roxbury Crossing, according to Rand.
There are no beds for overnight stays, but the two-story facility contains eight operating rooms, physical therapy stations, X-ray capabilities operated by Shields Health Care Group, and physician office space.
About 50 people will be employed at the facility. It cost about $25 million to build.
“The goal was to create a one-stop location where patients can access all of our programs and get high quality care in a convenient setting,” Rand said.
The Outpatient Care Center will also contain a unit called The Spine Center, in which patients can come to get treated for and be educated about back pain.
Ninety percent of the Spine Center’s cases will not require surgery, according to Rand. The operating rooms, however, are set up to handle about 4,000 surgeries per year, Rand said.
