Selectmen may have a price tag for the proposed municipal building on Rustcraft Road as early as Sept. 5, according to Selectman Carmen Dello Iacono.
Dello Iacono has been participating in negotiations to lease or purchase as much as 200,000 square feet of space to be used as a combined town hall, police station, and senior center.
The building in question at 100-150 Rustcraft Rd. was acquired by the Davis Cos. in February.
“We’re very comfortable right now with Davis,” Dello Iacono said Friday. “We’re closer to a number that is affordable to the taxpayers of the town.”
Dello Iacono said that negotiations were proceeding according to schedule and that he hoped to have an amount ready for selectmen’s next meeting on Sept. 5. Selectmen could then place an article on the warrant for the town’s Special Town Meeting this fall.
Town Meeting will make the ultimate decision.
Dello Iacono presented the details of the negotiations to selectmen in closed session on Thursday, but announced in open session that the process was “exciting.”
“I’m an emotional guy and this is exciting for me,” Dello Iacono said Friday. “It’s a path for the town that is precedent-setting across the commonwealth – a multi-municipal facility.
Selectmen have been working on potentially acquiring the space from Davis since March, in part to deal with controversies over placement of the town’s police station and senior center.
