Dedham’s recreation department is hosting a gardening program this fall along with local business Green City Growers.
The eight-week program is geared toward people who are interested in growing their own food, but do not know where to start.
Held at the Dolan Center at 269 Common St., the program will give participants the opportunity to get hands-on in the garden while learning skills necessary to work in their own yards and community plots.
Green City Growers, based in Somerville, will supply professionals to teach the progression of the garden and how to maintain and harvest crops.
Other skills include choosing the right location for a garden, planting, choosing the correct plants, where to get quality seeds and plants, the difference between using seeds and transplants, pest management, and soil quality.
Classes will be held every Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 to Oct. 28.
