A group of several guests at a Dedham hotel received calls from a credit card scam artist, but none gave out their information, according to police.
Dedham police went to the hotel, which they declined to identify, during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 13.
One guest said she had received a call to her room at 1 a.m. telling her that the credit card used at the front desk had been declined by the “lifelock system” and the person on the phone asked for her credit card information. She declined to provide it, then checked with the front desk.
Two other guests claimed to have received similar calls, and neither gave out the information.
The hotel recently switched its phone service to allow direct phone calls to be placed to each room without going through the front desk. The hotel will be switching to its previous phone provider to avoid other scams of this kind.
