Dedham’s second annual “BioBlitz” begins Friday at 6 p.m. with a guided walk through the nature trails at NewBridge on the Charles.
Dedham Natural Wonders, a nonprofit that works to increase awareness of Dedham’s natural spaces, will host the two-day event and hopes to find and identify 1,000 species of flora and fauna in the town.
Friday’s walk with take participants through the NewBridge on the Charles campus, and experts will point out various plants and species found in the area.
The paths are open to residents throughout the year and connect to the Charles River, the adjacent wetlands and through woods and fields.
The event will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dolan Center on Common Street with a “Birds of Prey” presentation by the Blue Hills Trailside Museum and a talk by science author Melissa Stewart.
Teams of naturalists will explore different areas of town including the Town Forest, Fowl Meadow, and the wetlands around Wigwam Pond.
