Public budget hearings will be held after the selectmen's regular meetings on March 13 and March 20, according to Board of Selectmen Chair Dan Bennett. There will also be meetings on March 15, March 22 and March 27.
Town Manager Wayne Marquis also updated the board last night on the timeline of the high school renovation project, saying in the coming weeks he will know for sure if the renovated building will be ready to move into this spring as planned, according to Bennett.
“He is still waiting to get conformation from the contractor but everything is going to be as it needs to be so far,” Bennett said during a telephone interview this morning. ”It looks like it’s on schedule.”
The first phase of the $70.9 million renovation project is slated to open this spring and the entire project was supposed to be completed by September 2013.
Last year the entire high school moved into the complex’s Dunn Wing, the district’s former middle school. The district planned to move back into the renovated building over April vacation.
“There will be a drop-dead cutoff date sometime in March,” Bennett said of deciding if the renovated building will be ready to move into this spring. “So there are still a couple weeks.”
In other high school related news, Bennett said the bleachers in the high school’s field house are currently being installed. Up until this point temporary bleachers have been in place.
Bennett also said town’s two-week old mandatory recycling program has already doubled the amount of recycling in the town from the same period last year. He said 126 tons have been recycled in two weeks compared to 62 tons at the same time last year.
“But in my mind last year there was so much snow maybe people were not putting it out,” Bennett noted.
