A Danvers man was rushed to a Boston hospital yesterday after falling to the pavement from the third-story of a Federal Street building, an official from the Salem Police Department said.

At about 3:06 yesterday afternoon, police received a call that a man, who was working with a construction crew on a renovation project at 43 Federal St., fell from scaffolding outside the building, said Salem police Lieutenant Scott Englehardt.

"He was unconscious, they didn't even take him to Salem Hospital, they took him right into Boston," Englehardt said. "I imagine he must have had some pretty serious injuries."

Englehardt identified the man as 26-year-old Richard Cross last night.

Cross' condition was not immediately known to Englehardt, nor was the hospital to which an ambulance transferred him.

Officials from Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, Englehardt said. The Lieutenant noted the only witness to the incident was a coworker who was on the second-story scaffolding at the time and did not see how Cross fell.

OSHA officials could not immediately be reached for comment last night.
