Even as Winter Storm Ukko blanketed much of New England this past week, spring lacrosse was on the minds of many as girls lacrosse officially began at Concord Carlisle High School on March 18.
This year’s Varsity team is expected to have a very different look and feel, as many new faces have been added to counter last season’s ten graduated seniors. Fortunately, CCHS will return a number of seasoned starters, including senior Captains Kate Wyeth & Maddie Holmes, junior Captain Allie Barrett and juniors Becca Olsen, Emma Brandhorst and Emma Mahoney. Also returning will be Sophomores Jenna Carlton & Lexi Goodhue.
CC went 12-7 last year, were champions of the Dual County League Small Division, and qualified for the MIAA Tournament for the sixth straight year. This seasons the CC girls hope to improve on that record with a strong, athletic, and dynamic team.
"Every preseason it's difficult to predict how a team will perform that year." said third year head Coach Paul Morrison. "We lost a lot of players that had played Varsity for three seasons, so experience will not be one of our strong points. The core group of returning players are going to be counted on heavily to produce more on the field, now that they are upperclassmen. They will also shoulder the burden of bringing the younger players along toward playing lacrosse at a high Varsity level. All of our players enter high school with a solid lacrosse skill set because of the great work done by the coaches at the youth level. Our success this season will depend on how quickly this dynamic young team can mature in individual roles, and as teammates."
CC officially begins their season with a home game against Wellesley on Tuesday, April 2nd at 3:45 on Doug White Field.
